The Nonprofit Caldwell Police Mounted Unit, The CPMU, a volunteer-based unit, relies heavily on donations to cover the costs associated with horse care, equipment, training, and certifications. Unlike many departments, our mounted unit is not funded by taxpayer dollars, making community support like yours essential to our operations.
When most people think of police work, they picture flashing lights and patrol cars. But here in Caldwell, something much more unique is part of our law enforcement team—three powerful, gentle draft horses who are an irreplaceable part of the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit. These horses don’t just patrol events. They build bridges. They turn fear into fascination. They help officers connect with our community in a way no squad car ever could.
But what many don’t realize is this: the mounted unit is almost entirely self-funded. The officers in the unit currently pay for most of the expenses out of their own pockets—everything from feed and farrier services to saddles, tack, and transportation. Even essential safety and training equipment must be purchased through donations or personal sacrifice. Donate today. Because safety, service, and connection deserve to ride strong.
